Why Futsal at EKS

Five a side on a hard court with a smaller, heavier ball. Players are on the ball all session, so first touch, turns and quick decisions improve fast.

More time on the ball

With five a side on a small court, every player is involved in every passage of play. It follows how we coach all year: small-sided games and as many touches as possible.

A first touch that has to be clean

The futsal ball is smaller and bounces less, and the floor is fast. A loose touch is lost straight away, so players learn to control with the sole and the inside of the foot.

Decisions under pressure

Opponents are always close. Players learn to scan, find angles and play quickly, and that carries straight back to the grass in spring.

Age Groups

Each group follows the same 8-week themes, pitched to its age.

U7–U9

Ball Mastery

60 minutes · Ball: Size 2 or 3

  • Sole rolls, pull-backs and stops
  • Dribbling with the head up
  • Lots of 2v2 and 3v3 games

U10–U11

1v1 and Combinations

75 minutes · Ball: Size 3

  • Beating a defender in tight space
  • The 1-2 and passing angles
  • Playing out from the goalkeeper

Futsal sharpens the skills we build on grass all year. On a hard court the ball moves fast and stays low, so players learn to receive with the sole, protect the ball and strike cleanly with either foot.

Session Structure

Every session ends with a real futsal game:

  • Ball Mastery Warm-up (15 minutes): Sole work, turns and quick feet with a ball each.
  • Skill Block (15–25 minutes): The week's theme, with repetition and coaching detail.
  • Small-Sided Games (10–20 minutes): 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4 to apply the theme under pressure.
  • 5v5 Futsal Match (20–30 minutes): Full futsal rules, with rolling substitutions.

The 8-Week Plan

  1. 1

    Sole control

Rolls, pull-backs and stops with the bottom of the foot.

  2. 2

First touch on a fast floor

Receiving with the sole and the inside, and setting up the next action.

  3. 3

    Turns and change of direction

Drag-backs and inside and outside cuts to escape pressure.

  4. 4

    1v1 attacking

Feints and acceleration to beat a defender in tight space.

  5. 5

    Passing angles and the 1-2

Moving to open a passing line, and wall passes around a defender.

  6. 6

    Finishing

Toe pokes, first-time shots and following in for rebounds.

  7. 7

    Defending together

Pressing the ball, covering a teammate and recovering the ball as a group.

  8. 8

    Futsal festival

A mini-tournament across both groups. Families are welcome to come and watch.

Futsal Rules in Brief

  • Teams: 5 v 5, including the goalkeeper.
  • Subs: Rolling substitutions at any time, through the substitution zone.
  • Kick-ins: When the ball crosses the touchline, play restarts with a kick-in, not a throw-in.
  • 4 seconds: Restarts must be taken within four seconds. The goalkeeper also has four seconds with the ball in their own half.
  • Offside: There is none.
  • Fouls: No slide tackles. Team fouls are counted, and from the sixth in a half the other team gets a free kick from 10 m with no wall.
